PDO Thread Lifts: The magic of skin tightening without invasive surgery
At Alchemy Wellness, we pride ourselves on transforming our patients’ health and well-being for the better. And PDO threads (or “thread lifts”) are changing how clinicians like our own Dr. Saima Jehangir are lifting saggy, aging skin and restoring healthy, youthful, and attractive facial contours, shape, and proportion for patients from across Central Austin and Central Texas as they age.
The problem: Laxity
As we age, the production of naturally firming collagen and springy elastin erodes. Other tissues that give our face its structural support, such as fat, are also diminished over time. When this occurs, we may notice pronounced lines and wrinkles, as well as sagging, loose skin and a loss of volume in areas such as under the eyes and the mid-face or cheeks. Environmental factors, like tanning, can also speed up this process and make us look older than we actually are, and these changes may even alter the shape of our faces! We no longer have the attractive and balanced “V” shape. Instead, there may be a loss of definition along the lower face and jawline.
Before the introduction of an array of nonsurgical and minimally invasive options, a facelift may have been the only way to tighten, smooth, and restore the contours and sculpted appearance of the face. For patients with stubborn fat and a loss of defined shapes on other parts of the body, invasive surgical interventions like liposuction may have been the only option. With the introduction of alternatives like polydioxanone (PDO) threads, you don’t have to go under the knife to restore the appearance you know and love and, with it, your sense of self and confidence.
A revolutionary solution
PDO refers to a medical-grade polymer designed to be easily absorbed by the skin and natural tissues. As such, this biocompatible material fits the fundamental principles of our holistic health and wellness center. These PDO threads or sutures are introduced to areas that could use the lift and boost. Due to their biocompatibility, they eventually meld safely with the surrounding tissues. So they do not pose a risk of adverse side effects. Additionally, they are “collagen stimulators,” which means that in the ensuing months after their introduction, PDO threads encourage renewed production of this firming protein. In turn, they provide both the scaffolding and support that your face needs, as well as getting to the source of the problem by replenishing beneficial substances like collagen.
At our med spa, we use Les Encres threads. These threads may be appropriate for many areas of the face and body; however, they are particularly effective at sculpting the lower third portion of the face. Nonsurgical treatments, such as neurotoxins like Botox® and fillers like Restylane®, are limited in their capacity to “treat” a lax chin and poorly defined jaw. But this is where Les Encres PDO threads really shine! To learn more about what to expect before, during, and after this procedure, call us today.
